We open ferment our beer, keeping our yeast healthy and happy!

Our Story

Against the banks of the Jock River, in the heart of the Ottawa Valley – joined with renowned Brew Master and friend, Lorne Hart, The Ashton Brewery was brought to life.

2011 saw the birth of our flagship beer, The Amber Ale. Our brewery is one of a few breweries in North America that practices open fermentation. The traditional way beer was produced for centuries and is still common in Germany, Belgium, and the UK. We are generations into our original Ringworm yeast, and over the years it has developed into a great house yeast that is unique to Ashton Brewing Company. As of 2023, we have brewer over 3000 batches of beer with over 20 brands in our portfolio. You can enjoy an Ashton Ale in a wide range of establishments in and around the Ottawa area and beyond.

Our Team

The Hodgins Family
The Hodgins Family

Owners / Operators

Art, Kerry, Quinn, MJ and Brendan are who form the Hodgins family many of you have come to know and love. From the tallest task to the tiniest detail, The Hodgins are involved every step of the way, and they would never ask a person to do something that they wouldn’t do themselves. Involved in Ashton from the beginning, pushing every single day to make Ashton brewing what it is today.

Brian Nolan
Brian Nolan

General Manager

Born and raised in St John’s Newfoundland, Brian joined the band wagon here at Ashton in 2019 after 16 plus years at Labatt. Brian keeps the wheels in motion by scheduling brews, scheduling can, and keg runs, ordering materials, tracking inventory and general day to day task assignments. He even started doing the brewery’s social media. He stills loves to jump on the production floor every chance he gets and complete any of the tasks within the brewing process. But as much as Brian loves Ashton, he will tell you that work/life balance has always been the key to his happy life. And time spent with his extraordinary wife Alexis and their growing family is what makes his life complete.

Danny Clancy
Danny Clancy

Head Brewer

Born in Ottawa, Danny moved to Carleton Place at the age of five where he would spend his youth. He moved to Yellowknife in 1992 but returned home to Carleton Place in 2004. Danny has been with the brewery since day one brewing the great beer you all love. He is also our Jack of all trades and fixes anything that needs fixing around Ashton. Outside of work Danny would say his greatest accomplishment are his two kids Laurissa and Hunter, and his grandkids.

Jamie
Jamie

Logistics Co-Ordinator

Born and raised in Ashton, Jamie joined the team at the brewery in 2017 after 20 years in the waste management industry. You could argue he is the most important person in making sure you get all those great Ashton products you love. Jamie receives the orders, maps out delivery routes, sets delivery dates and loads the trucks. As much as Jamie loves Ashton brewing, it pales in comparison to the love he has for his family. You only need to have a short conversation with him to see the love and pride he has when talking about his wife Bobbi and their daughter Laurel.

Eric Dubuc
Eric Dubuc

Longest Standing Employee / Office Manager

Eric landed in Ottawa with his parents at the age of 5. In 2005 he moved to Vancouver, BC, and that’s where his brewing career started. In 2010 Eric and his wife moved back to Ottawa and in early 2011 Eric found his way into Ashton Brewing. He has been with us since the beginning and his first days were spent hooking up all the brew house lines before the first brew. Eric’s passion for brewing and Ashton is unrivalled. As one of our head brewers he is responsible for all those great Ashton recipes. Outside of Ashton, Eric’s hobbies are sports, but his absolute happiest times are the ones spent with his wife Carmen and their young daughter.

Cassandra Houde
Cassandra Houde

Brew Crew

Cas was born in a small town in Northern Ontario named Iroquois Falls; but she grew up in many different parts of Canada, briefly living in various areas of BC, then back to North Bay, before finally settling down in Ottawa. Cas joined the team in 2015, and she quickly learned how much she enjoyed the brewing process. Her role has evolved over time, and she is looking after the day-to-day aspects of the brewing process with ease. Along with her two pups Riot and Rec, Cas also loves creating, playing, listening, and supporting music and local talent.

Greg Ball
Greg Ball

Brand Ambassador {Kingston area}

Greg was born in St. Mary’s, Ontario. A small town, who’s claimed to fame is that it’s the home of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. While Greg loves his hometown, he has spent the bulk of his life in Kingston, where he has been Ashton’s Brand Ambassador since 2019. Since that moment Greg had been a key figure in our continuous growth in the Kingston area. Greg is now in the process of expanding our following into Belleville and beyond. Outside of work, Greg’s passion is music. He is a singer/songwriter who finds great tranquility when he has a guitar in his hand. When he’s not playing music, he loves spending time with his wife Zoey and their two kids.

Will Dickens
Will Dickens

Brew Crew

Will was born is Chichester, England (which gives Ashton some street cred in the English ale world). After spending his youth in England Will moved to south-east Asia, where is cofounded a small tourism business with some of his friends. After some success and a whole lot of fun Will decided to move to Canada in 2011. He was working at the Ashton pub in 2014, and in early 2020 he shifted his focus to working full time at the brewery. Will is a person we can count on to do any and every job. From cellaring to canning to delivering, Will does it all and always does it with a smile on his face. Will’s hobbies outside work include scuba diving, fishing, camping and anything nature related. But he always says his favourite activity is playing Legos with his son Theo.

Kelsey Crispin
Kelsey Crispin

Brand Ambassador (Ottawa & Valley}

Born and raised in Richmond, she has since settled with her family in Carleton Place. With almost 19 years in the restaurant industry Kelsey made the move to the brewing industry joining Ashton in 2022. Kelsey looks after sales for the Ottawa and Valley region. She can also be found at the brewery dabbling in design and office work. You may also hear her chatting with the resident chickens before she hits the road to visit her accounts! Outside of work, Kelsey enjoys quiet times at home with her family and animals. She can also likely be found at a baseball diamond or rink watching her kids play sports!

Derek
Derek

Brew Crew / Delivery / Brewery Funny Guy

Due to National Security reasons, we can only confirm that Derek was born in and around the Niagara Falls region. He now resides in the caverns underneath the brewery along the banks of the Jock River since he started at ABC in early 2023. His favourite Ashton brews are the Irene’s Red and the Coffee Porter. He’s the quiet one in the brewery so this will be short and sweet! Derek takes the weekly trip down to Kingston to delivery beer as well as completes his daily tasks at the brewery.
